I started with a box set and paid $45 for a 30-minute lie/length check on a 7-iron, then had the irons bent to match; it improved contact more than chasing a full custom build. If you want to “build over time,” would you upgrade the putter first? I’d do putter first and add a 54° wedge next, unless your driver is way off, since those changes are the cheapest and shave strokes fastest.

Agree with @s_blake93, but the quickest win is a 20–30 min launch monitor gapping check: write down your carry numbers and if two clubs overlap, adjust loft 1–2° or replace the longest iron with a hybrid. Unless you’re well outside standard height or have 110+ mph driver speed, treat it like tailoring jeans, not a bespoke tux.
